AC Compressor Repair

We diagnose and repair failed or failing AC compressors in homes across Florida and Georgia, and we tell you plainly whether the compressor is worth repairing or the outdoor unit should be replaced. You need this call when the outdoor unit hums but the fan and cooling never come, when the breaker trips every time the system starts, or when air from the vents is warm while the condenser runs hard. Turn the system off at the thermostat so it stops short cycling, then call us to schedule air conditioning repair.

What AC compressor repair actually involves

The compressor is the pump that moves refrigerant through the system, and it sits inside the outdoor unit. Repair work usually means testing the electrical parts that feed it and the pressures around it, because a compressor rarely dies alone. We check the start and run capacitor, the contactor, wiring connections, and the incoming voltage. If those are healthy and the compressor is still not moving refrigerant, we measure winding resistance and pressures to confirm the failure before anyone spends money on parts.},{"h2":"","body":""}

What we check and what we replace

On a typical call we inspect the capacitor, contactor, hard start components, and the disconnect. We clean the condenser coil, since coils near the Gulf and along the coast foul fast and a smothered coil cooks a compressor over a season or two. We verify refrigerant charge, superheat and subcooling, and look for restrictions or a failing metering device. Where the compressor is truly seized or shorted, we quote the replacement compressor or a new outdoor unit and explain both options side by side.

How we decide repair is the right call

Age, refrigerant type, and what killed the compressor drive the decision. If a bad capacitor or a filthy coil caused the failure on a newer system, replacing the compressor and fixing the root cause makes sense. If the system is old, uses a phased out refrigerant, and the failure sent debris through the lines, replacement is usually the sounder choice. We show you what we measured and what we saw inside the unit, then let you decide. No pressure either way.

AC Compressor Repair — quick answers

Can a compressor be repaired, or does it have to be replaced?

Internally, a compressor cannot be rebuilt in your yard. What we repair are the parts that feed and protect it, like capacitors, contactors and wiring. If the compressor itself has failed, it gets replaced.

Why does my breaker trip when the outdoor unit starts?

Often a failing capacitor or a compressor drawing locked rotor current. Stop resetting the breaker repeatedly, leave the system off, and call us for air conditioner repair so we can test it safely.

How long does a compressor replacement take?

Most take the better part of a day once the part is on hand, including recovery, brazing, evacuation and recharge. Part availability for older systems can add time, and we tell you upfront.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill out the quote form and describe what changed. Warm air, short cycling, a clicking outdoor unit, water on the floor. Details help us load the right parts before we drive out.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical side, refrigerant behavior, and the coil. Coils foul fast in coastal air, so we look there early. You get the finding in plain language before work starts.

  3. Step 3

    Repair and verify

We make the repair, then run the system and watch it. Supply temperature, drain flow, amp draw, and how the house actually feels. If the fix needs a follow-up part, we tell you that day.

Why homeowners call us

  • Humidity gets equal weightCold air alone is not comfort. On slab homes and older condos, a system can hit temperature and still leave the rooms clammy. We look at run time, airflow, and drainage so the house dries out instead of just chilling.
  • Coastal wear is expectedSalt air chews condenser fins and contactors. We check for corrosion, weak capacitors, and fouled coils as part of the diagnosis, because in this region those are causes rather than afterthoughts.
  • Heat gets attention tooFurnace repair, heat pump reversing valve trouble, and heat strip failures all come through in the cooler months. Georgia homes lean on heat harder than Florida homes, and we service both ends of the region.
  • No mystery invoicesYou hear what failed, what it takes to fix, and what we found nearby that may fail next. If a repair does not make sense on an old system, we say so instead of stacking parts on it.
  • All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
  • Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
