What Dual-Fuel Repair Actually Involves
A dual-fuel repair is mostly a controls and staging problem. Two heating sources have to share one thermostat, one outdoor sensor and one set of relays, and the handoff has to happen at the right outdoor temperature. We trace the wiring between the thermostat, the heat pump control board and the furnace board, then watch the system stage through a call for heat. Sometimes the fault is a failed outdoor sensor. Sometimes it is a thermostat that was replaced with one that cannot run dual-fuel logic at all.
What We Check On The Visit
We start with the thermostat configuration and confirm it is set up for dual-fuel rather than heat pump with electric backup. Then we read the outdoor sensor, check the balance point setting and verify the furnace and heat pump are not being called at the same time. We inspect the reversing valve operation, defrost board, blower speeds and the low voltage connections at both units. Coils get looked at too, because a fouled outdoor coil in our humid air pushes a heat pump into backup heat far earlier than it should.
How We Decide Repair Is The Right Call
We look at what is failing and what it costs to keep alive. A bad outdoor sensor, a loose thermostat wire, a stuck relay or a control board are all straightforward repairs on an otherwise sound system. If the heat pump compressor is failing and the furnace heat exchanger has cracked, we say so plainly and talk through replacement instead. Age matters, but so does whether both halves of the system still match. We give you what we found and let you choose.

Why does my furnace run when it is only 60 degrees outside?
Usually the balance point is set too high or the outdoor sensor is reading wrong, so the control logic thinks it is colder than it is. Both are common and both are repairs we handle.
I replaced my thermostat and now the system acts strange. Is that related?
Very likely. Dual-fuel needs a thermostat that supports dual-fuel staging and an outdoor sensor input. A standard heat pump thermostat will run the two heating sources wrong. We can check the wiring and settings.
I smell gas near the furnace. What should I do?
Leave the building right away, take everyone with you, and call 911 or your gas utility from outside. Do not touch switches or the thermostat. Once the gas company clears the property, call us for the repair.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill out the quote form and describe what changed. Warm air, short cycling, a clicking outdoor unit, water on the floor. Details help us load the right parts before we drive out.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical side, refrigerant behavior, and the coil. Coils foul fast in coastal air, so we look there early. You get the finding in plain language before work starts.
- Step 3
Repair and verify
We make the repair, then run the system and watch it. Supply temperature, drain flow, amp draw, and how the house actually feels. If the fix needs a follow-up part, we tell you that day.

Why homeowners call us
- Humidity gets equal weightCold air alone is not comfort. On slab homes and older condos, a system can hit temperature and still leave the rooms clammy. We look at run time, airflow, and drainage so the house dries out instead of just chilling.
- Coastal wear is expectedSalt air chews condenser fins and contactors. We check for corrosion, weak capacitors, and fouled coils as part of the diagnosis, because in this region those are causes rather than afterthoughts.
- Heat gets attention tooFurnace repair, heat pump reversing valve trouble, and heat strip failures all come through in the cooler months. Georgia homes lean on heat harder than Florida homes, and we service both ends of the region.
- No mystery invoicesYou hear what failed, what it takes to fix, and what we found nearby that may fail next. If a repair does not make sense on an old system, we say so instead of stacking parts on it.
- All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
- Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
