Top-rated independent heating and cooling across Tampa Bay and Florida's Gulf Coast

Thermostat Replacement

We replace failed and outdated thermostats on residential heating and cooling systems across Florida and Georgia, matching the new control to your equipment and wiring. You need this job when the screen is blank, the temperature reading drifts from what the room actually feels like, the system short cycles, or the old control cannot handle a heat pump's auxiliary heat. Before you call, check the batteries and confirm the settings did not get bumped. If that changes nothing, book a visit and we will test the control and the wiring behind it.

What a thermostat replacement involves

We start at the equipment, not the wall. A thermostat that looks dead is sometimes a blown low voltage fuse or a float switch that tripped on a clogged drain, which is common in slab homes and older condos in humid air. Once we know the control itself is the problem, we shut power down, note every wire and terminal, mount the new plate level, connect it, and set it up for your system type. Then we run heating and cooling and watch the equipment respond before we leave.

What we check and what we install

We check the wire count at the wall, because a lot of homes in the region were built with four or five conductors and a new control may want a common wire. We check staging, heat pump reversing valve orientation, and whether auxiliary heat is present. Then we install a control sized to that setup, programmable or smart if you want it, simple if you do not. We also look at where the thermostat sits, since sun on a wall or a drafty return can make it read the room wrong.

How we decide replacement is the right call

Replacement makes sense when the control has failed outright, when its contacts are sticking and causing short cycles, or when it cannot run the equipment you now have. It also makes sense if the old unit has no humidity awareness and your house feels clammy at the set temperature, which matters as much as raw cooling near the coast. If the real fault is wiring, a tripped safety, or a fouled coil, we say so and fix that instead. A new thermostat does not repair a struggling system.

Thermostat Replacement — quick answers

Can I just swap the thermostat myself?

We would rather test it first. Thermostat wiring ties into low voltage controls and safety switches, and a miswired terminal can damage a control board. Safe checks on your end are batteries, settings, the breaker, and the filter.

Will a smart thermostat help with humidity?

Some controls can run longer, gentler cycles that pull more moisture out of the air, which helps in coastal homes. It depends on your equipment and ductwork. We will tell you honestly whether your system can use that feature.

My screen is blank. Is the thermostat dead?

Not always. A blank screen often means dead batteries, a tripped breaker, a blown low voltage fuse, or a full drain pan shutting the system off on a safety switch. We check all of those before recommending a replacement.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill out the quote form and describe what changed. Warm air, short cycling, a clicking outdoor unit, water on the floor. Details help us load the right parts before we drive out.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical side, refrigerant behavior, and the coil. Coils foul fast in coastal air, so we look there early. You get the finding in plain language before work starts.

  3. Step 3

    Repair and verify

We make the repair, then run the system and watch it. Supply temperature, drain flow, amp draw, and how the house actually feels. If the fix needs a follow-up part, we tell you that day.

Why homeowners call us

  • Humidity gets equal weightCold air alone is not comfort. On slab homes and older condos, a system can hit temperature and still leave the rooms clammy. We look at run time, airflow, and drainage so the house dries out instead of just chilling.
  • Coastal wear is expectedSalt air chews condenser fins and contactors. We check for corrosion, weak capacitors, and fouled coils as part of the diagnosis, because in this region those are causes rather than afterthoughts.
  • Heat gets attention tooFurnace repair, heat pump reversing valve trouble, and heat strip failures all come through in the cooler months. Georgia homes lean on heat harder than Florida homes, and we service both ends of the region.
  • No mystery invoicesYou hear what failed, what it takes to fix, and what we found nearby that may fail next. If a repair does not make sense on an old system, we say so instead of stacking parts on it.
  • All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
  • Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
