Refrigerant Leak Repair

We find and repair refrigerant leaks in residential air conditioning systems across Florida and Georgia, then recharge the system to the manufacturer's stated weight. You need this when the AC runs and runs without cooling, ice forms on the indoor coil or the line, or the outdoor unit hisses. Turn the system off at the thermostat so the coil can thaw and the blower stops icing further, then call us. Adding refrigerant without finding the leak just puts your money into the air outside.

What a refrigerant leak repair involves

We start by confirming the symptom is actually low charge and not a dirty filter, a failed blower, or a clogged drain. Then we pressure test and search the sealed side with electronic detection and, where it helps, dye or nitrogen. Leaks show up at flare fittings, service valves, coil hairpins, and line set joints where the copper has rubbed. Once we locate it, we repair or replace the failed part, pull a vacuum to clear moisture, and weigh in the correct charge.

What we check and what we replace

We check the indoor coil, the outdoor condenser coil, both service valves, the Schrader cores, the accessible line set, and the compressor terminals. Near the Gulf, coils foul and corrode fast, and formicary corrosion pinholes in an evaporator are common on older systems. Sometimes the fix is a new valve core or a brazed joint. Sometimes the coil itself is done and we quote a coil or a full system. We also clear the drain and clean the coil so the repair holds.

How we decide repair is the right call

We weigh the location of the leak, the age of the equipment, and what refrigerant the system uses. A single accessible joint on a system with years left is a straightforward repair. Multiple pinholes in an aging evaporator, or a system on an obsolete refrigerant, usually means replacement makes better sense than repeat recharges. We tell you which one you are looking at before we do the work, and we put the reasoning in plain language so you can decide.

Refrigerant Leak Repair — quick answers

Can I just add refrigerant every season?

No. A sealed system does not consume refrigerant, so if it is low there is a leak. Repeated recharges cost more over time and running low on charge stresses the compressor, which is the expensive part.

Why is my indoor coil or line covered in ice?

Low refrigerant charge drops coil temperature below freezing and moisture in the air freezes on it. Restricted airflow does the same. Shut the system off at the thermostat, let it thaw, and call us to test the charge.

How long does a leak search take?

Most searches take one visit. Accessible joints and valves are found quickly. A pinhole buried in a coil or a slow leak in a line set can take longer, and we may pressurise the system and return to confirm.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill out the quote form and describe what changed. Warm air, short cycling, a clicking outdoor unit, water on the floor. Details help us load the right parts before we drive out.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical side, refrigerant behavior, and the coil. Coils foul fast in coastal air, so we look there early. You get the finding in plain language before work starts.

  3. Step 3

    Repair and verify

We make the repair, then run the system and watch it. Supply temperature, drain flow, amp draw, and how the house actually feels. If the fix needs a follow-up part, we tell you that day.

Why homeowners call us

  • Humidity gets equal weightCold air alone is not comfort. On slab homes and older condos, a system can hit temperature and still leave the rooms clammy. We look at run time, airflow, and drainage so the house dries out instead of just chilling.
  • Coastal wear is expectedSalt air chews condenser fins and contactors. We check for corrosion, weak capacitors, and fouled coils as part of the diagnosis, because in this region those are causes rather than afterthoughts.
  • Heat gets attention tooFurnace repair, heat pump reversing valve trouble, and heat strip failures all come through in the cooler months. Georgia homes lean on heat harder than Florida homes, and we service both ends of the region.
  • No mystery invoicesYou hear what failed, what it takes to fix, and what we found nearby that may fail next. If a repair does not make sense on an old system, we say so instead of stacking parts on it.
  • All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
  • Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
