What this repair involves
A heat pump in heating mode moves heat from outdoor air into your home, so a no-heat call is usually a reversing valve, defrost board, low charge, or a failed backup heat strip. We start at the thermostat, confirm the call is reaching the equipment, then measure temperatures across the coil and read pressures at the outdoor unit. That tells us whether the system is refusing to switch modes or simply cannot move enough heat to matter on a cold morning.
What we check on site
We test the reversing valve solenoid, the defrost sensor and control board, the outdoor fan, and the contactor and capacitor. We read refrigerant pressures and superheat, inspect the outdoor coil for salt film, leaf pack and dirt, and check the auxiliary heat strips and their sequencers. Indoors we look at the blower wheel, the filter and the duct connections. Coastal air fouls coils fast, and a caked outdoor coil alone can leave a heat pump barely warm.
How we decide it is the right call
If the system cools fine in summer but will not heat, the fault is usually in the parts that only run in heating, and a targeted repair makes sense. If the compressor is failing, the coil is leaking in several spots, or the unit is old enough that parts are hard to source, we say so and lay out replacement alongside the repair. You get the readings we took and what each option fixes, then you choose.

Why is my heat pump blowing cool air in heating mode?
Most often the reversing valve is stuck in cooling, the charge is low, or the unit is in a defrost cycle. Defrost is normal and brief. If cool air lasts past ten minutes, call us for heating repair.
Is steam coming off my outdoor unit a problem?
No. That is the defrost cycle melting frost off the outdoor coil, and it can look like smoke. It should end within several minutes and the system should return to heating.
Should I use emergency heat until you arrive?
You can, and it will keep the house warm, though it runs on electric strips only. Switch back once we have repaired the heat pump. Let us know you ran it, since it points to where the fault sits.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill out the quote form and describe what changed. Warm air, short cycling, a clicking outdoor unit, water on the floor. Details help us load the right parts before we drive out.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical side, refrigerant behavior, and the coil. Coils foul fast in coastal air, so we look there early. You get the finding in plain language before work starts.
- Step 3
Repair and verify
We make the repair, then run the system and watch it. Supply temperature, drain flow, amp draw, and how the house actually feels. If the fix needs a follow-up part, we tell you that day.

Why homeowners call us
- Humidity gets equal weightCold air alone is not comfort. On slab homes and older condos, a system can hit temperature and still leave the rooms clammy. We look at run time, airflow, and drainage so the house dries out instead of just chilling.
- Coastal wear is expectedSalt air chews condenser fins and contactors. We check for corrosion, weak capacitors, and fouled coils as part of the diagnosis, because in this region those are causes rather than afterthoughts.
- Heat gets attention tooFurnace repair, heat pump reversing valve trouble, and heat strip failures all come through in the cooler months. Georgia homes lean on heat harder than Florida homes, and we service both ends of the region.
- No mystery invoicesYou hear what failed, what it takes to fix, and what we found nearby that may fail next. If a repair does not make sense on an old system, we say so instead of stacking parts on it.
- All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
- Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
