Heat Pump Repair — Book a Visit Today

We repair heat pumps that stopped heating, stopped cooling, or froze up and never recovered, for homeowners across Florida and Georgia. Most calls come down to a failed reversing valve, a bad defrost board or sensor, a weak capacitor, a contactor that no longer pulls in, low refrigerant charge from a leak, or an outdoor coil packed with grass and salt film. On a visit we confirm what the thermostat is calling for, read pressures and temperatures at the unit, check the defrost cycle and the auxiliary heat, and then tell you what failed and what it takes to fix it. Call us with the model and what you are hearing, and we will schedule a look. Turn the system off if it is icing over.

The heat pump symptoms we hear most

  • Air comes out cool when the heat is on Reversing valve stuck in cooling, or the system is running on outdoor coil ice
  • Outdoor unit is buried in ice and stays that way Defrost board, defrost sensor or reversing valve failure
  • Electric bill jumped and the heat runs constantly Auxiliary or emergency heat locked on because the compressor stage is not producing
  • Loud bang or shudder every time the mode changes Reversing valve solenoid, hard-start component or failing compressor mounts
  • Outdoor fan spins but the house never warms Low refrigerant charge from a leak, failed capacitor or compressor not loading

Search for it as heat pump repair or heat pump service and you land in the same place: one visit, one written quote.

Safe things to check first

Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.

  • 1Check the thermostat batteries and confirm it is set to Heat with the setpoint above room temperature, not left on Emergency Heat.
  • 2Look at the breaker panel for a tripped breaker on the air handler or outdoor unit, and reset it once only.
  • 3Change the air filter if it is grey and loaded, since restricted airflow is a common cause of poor heating and icing.
  • 4Clear leaves, grass clippings and mulch away from the outdoor unit so it has room to breathe, and keep the top clear.

Heat Pump Repair — quick answers

Why is my heat pump blowing cool air in heating mode?

Usually the reversing valve is not shifting, the outdoor coil is iced, or the refrigerant charge is low from a leak. A heat pump also blows cooler air than a furnace by design. If it feels cold, not just mild, call us for a look.

What does the defrost cycle do, and how do I know it failed?

The system briefly reverses to melt frost off the outdoor coil, then returns to heating. If the coil stays iced for hours, steam never appears, or defrost runs every few minutes, the board or sensor usually needs testing and replacement.

Is it normal for my outdoor unit to steam in winter?

Yes. Steam rolling off the outdoor coil for several minutes means the defrost cycle is working and melting frost. What is not normal is solid ice covering the coil and fan grille that never clears between cycles.

What is a dual-fuel system and what usually breaks?

Dual-fuel pairs a heat pump with a gas furnace and switches between them based on outdoor temperature. Failures usually involve the outdoor thermostat sensor, the changeover control wiring, or one half of the system not being called at all.

My auxiliary heat light stays on. Is that a problem?

If it stays on during mild weather, yes. It usually means the compressor stage is not producing heat, so the electric strips are carrying the whole load. That gets expensive fast. Have us test the compressor circuit and the defrost control.

Can a heat pump be repaired, or should I replace it?

Most heat pumps are worth repairing. Capacitors, contactors, defrost boards, sensors and fan motors are straightforward parts. We talk replacement when the compressor has failed or a refrigerant leak sits inside a coil on an aging system. We will show you what we found.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill out the quote form and describe what changed. Warm air, short cycling, a clicking outdoor unit, water on the floor. Details help us load the right parts before we drive out.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical side, refrigerant behavior, and the coil. Coils foul fast in coastal air, so we look there early. You get the finding in plain language before work starts.

  3. Step 3

    Repair and verify

We make the repair, then run the system and watch it. Supply temperature, drain flow, amp draw, and how the house actually feels. If the fix needs a follow-up part, we tell you that day.

Why homeowners call us

  • Humidity gets equal weightCold air alone is not comfort. On slab homes and older condos, a system can hit temperature and still leave the rooms clammy. We look at run time, airflow, and drainage so the house dries out instead of just chilling.
  • Coastal wear is expectedSalt air chews condenser fins and contactors. We check for corrosion, weak capacitors, and fouled coils as part of the diagnosis, because in this region those are causes rather than afterthoughts.
  • Heat gets attention tooFurnace repair, heat pump reversing valve trouble, and heat strip failures all come through in the cooler months. Georgia homes lean on heat harder than Florida homes, and we service both ends of the region.
  • No mystery invoicesYou hear what failed, what it takes to fix, and what we found nearby that may fail next. If a repair does not make sense on an old system, we say so instead of stacking parts on it.
  • All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
  • Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
